Why do we only support the use of a correctly fitted H harness?
A correctly fitted H-harness is one of the main elements of a nice walk. Here are the reasons why:
Neck: A nicely fitted H-shaped harness keeps the dog's neck free from tension, pain or injury. The neck has many sensitive structures that need to be kept healthy.
Movement: Dogs need to be able to move freely to walk, to run, to play, but also to be able to use their body for communication.
Tension: Collars usually add tension to different scenarios. For example, a dog that is a bit nervous or inexperienced meets another dog. The situation makes him tense (or curious) enough to pull or lunge. Or maybe the owner pulls on the leash. On a collar, that hurts! This dog may start to associate the pain in his neck with the sight of other dogs and become reactive to them. Collars can also intensify pulling on the leash. A dog that pulls on a collar feels tension and wants to get away from it. Hence he pulls even more!
Comfort: A harness is much more comfortable for a dog that a collar. If fitted properly, it follows the contours of the body without rubbing. Please remember that an incorrectly shaped or fitted harness can also be harmful.
Of course we cannot forget a long enough leash (minimum 3 meters) that allows free movement. These two make the perfect walking combo.
